The Importance Of Employee Safety Recognition

Be a mentor instead of a boss

As an employer you have more responsibilities than hiring people to do their job. Your job is to supervise and ensure that those under you are working efficiently. You can play a major role in inspiring them to work with more enthusiasm and healthy competition with their colleagues without instigating negative ambitious behavior.

As soon as employees feel that their superiors are disinterested in their work environment they also lose passion in their work. When this happens, the entire work force of a business collapses. This shows in their overall performance which is again reflected in the company's turnover records. Employees are like pets; they will behave as well as they are supervised.

This does not mean that as an employer you keep your subordinates on a leash. Encourage them to experiment with their ideas even if it means taking more time once in a while. Unless you let their creativity flow into their work, your employees will lose their talent or find other places to channelize it (read: look for jobs).

Inspire your employees

Although most professionals are self-inspired to work hard and perform in their work sphere, some individuals work differently and look for appreciation externally. As an employer it is your responsibility to ensure such workers that their work is appreciated and that they should continue to perform and strive to be even better at what they do.

Importance of maintaining safety measures in the office premises

Safety in every business is important. Every office has a basic ground rule for safety that is followed on a regular basis. It is important for everyone who visits the office premises to know how this safety circuit works. For this the employer should take an initiative to organize meetings to update workers in the office about the various guidelines and equipment available to ensure safety in the office.

Unless the boss shows interest in the safety of his employees, the latter group also ceases to pay attention to important details that may become crucial knowledge in certain situations.

Here are some easy to follow steps that you can implement to spread awareness about the safety precautions followed in your business:

  • Call monthly meetings to get updates on what is being done to maintain the safety measures taken in the office.
  • Find out what one has to do in order to prevent or salvage an emergency situation such as blackouts, fire or elevator malfunctions. Educate your employees on how to handle situation such as these which include pressing the emergency button immediately in the elevator or using a fire extinguisher.
  • Run regular check on the electrical connections and equipment of the building to ensure that the circuit and wires are in proper condition.
  • Make a list of Do's and Don'ts regarding safety precautions and stick up copies of these in every floor at strategic positions.
  • In case of a mistake in following the rules of safety by an employee, educate him better for the next time instead of punishing the individual.

It is also very important that employees are recognized and rewarded for achieving safety performance. Although employees are expected to perform their jobs safely, it is a huge cost benefit to the company when this actually takes place. Use safety accomplishments as another opportunity to show your employees how much you care and that you recognize their efforts.
